In our family, the classic Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Song has been a special part of our bedtime routine. Since we’re trying to raise multilingual children, I have been singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star lyrics in Mandarin Chinese, which translates to 小星星 (xiǎo xīng xīng).
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star 小星星 is one of our favorite Chinese children’s songs. It’s been a special part of our daily bedtime routine since my kids were little.

In addition to reading practice and fine motor skills, this is a fun way to create art.
Supplies: Black construction paper, white crayon or silver marker, scissors, mini star stickers
Instructions:
- Fold construction paper into quarters.
- Cut along creases to create multiple black cards.
- Write each Chinese character of the Twinkle Twinkle Little Star song lyric with dashed lines with a white crayon or silver marker.
- Arrange Chinese characters in the proper order.
- Put stickers on dashed lines to create constellation art.
小星星 Twinkle Twinkle DIY Puzzle
If your kids like jigsaw puzzles, here is a crafty way to learn the Little Star song lyrics in Chinese.
Supplies: Mini star stickers, craft sticks, black acrylic paint, paintbrush, small white circle stickers, X-acto knife
Instructions:
- Paint craft sticks black.
- Allow the paint to dry.
- Write 小星星 song lyrics on small white circle stickers. Stick each Chinese character at the top and bottom of each craft stick in the order of the song lyrics.
- Affix the star stickers on and between the craft sticks, as shown in the photo. Cut stars between craft sticks with an X-acto knife.
- Mix up puzzle pieces. As the child solves the puzzle, he or she can use the song lyrics for reference!
